HM Customs & Excise:
At UK airports, travellers depending on what they bought, where and the quantity of the goods that they are bringing in are required to pass through either a red, green and at major UK airports, also a blue channel option.
There is no duty to be paid in the UK on goods (reasonable quantities) that you have bought tax paid in any EU countries for personal use. Large amount of alcohol or tobacco will incurr duties if you are unable to fulfill the HM Custom 'personal use' requirement.
If you are entering the UK from outside the EU you have a limited and much lower allowance
Red channel - if you have goods to declare to Customs or if you are unsure about whether or not you need to declare them.
Green channel - if you do not have any goods to declare.
Blue channel - if you are coming from another EU country and have no goods to declare.
